Square washers are a type of fastener used to spread the load of a threaded fastener, such as a bolt or nut. They are typically made of metal and have a square shape, with the inner and outer edges of the washer having a slightly rounded edge. Square washers are often used to prevent fasteners from loosening due to vibration, and they can also be used to provide a better grip on the fastener.

They are available in a variety of sizes and materials, and can be used in a variety of applications.

Whilst disc washers operate solely as load distributors, square flat washers serve a second role. Their thick metal forms have a bolt opening in the centre, plus a wider surface area, a feature that spreads torque and head load. This means the bolt crown can be lifted away from the anchored part. It also means that a multi-surface project won’t deform or bend when the fastener is tightened.

For this purpose, they suit M6, M8, M10, M12 Allthread.

Two finishes are available, Hot Dipped Galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461:2009 and Bright Zinc Plated to BS 7371-1:2009.
